What were some Career Center services you used or events you attended?

I used The Career Center to have my resume and cover letters critiqued. The Career Center did a great job of explaining the importance of individualizing each cover letter for a specific company. I was also provided access to useful information on several companies with the entertainment business.

How did these help you in landing the internship?

These services helped me stand out amongst other strong candidates, as well as truly demonstrate my skills. By taking the time to do each cover letter and resume exclusively for each application, I displayed a strong interest in the company, which only added more value to my application.

What did you learn from the internship experience?

I was able to learn about everything that goes into the Original Programming Development process in TV. There is a lot of hard work that goes into making a successful television series, and I was able to get hands-on experience in several stages of the process. Working with Starz was truly an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to work with highly respected actors, writers, and directors within the TV business.

What advice do you have for current students?

If there were one thing I would strongly recommend to students, it would be to use all of the resources available to you. If you’re attempting to land a tough job, don’t be afraid to ask others around you if they are able to help. You never know who is going to have a valuable connection within an industry that can help you get your foot in the door. Also, while interning, absolutely take the time to get to know everyone around you. Being an intern can be intimidating at first, but in reality, all of the executives and co-workers around you were in your shoes at one point and are more than happy to help. Establishing a strong relationship with them can also lead you to your next big job opportunity.

What are your future goals?

My ultimate goal is to work in Talent Representation. I love the idea of becoming a Talent Agent or Manager but am also intrigued by working for a network or studio.
