Leadership Experiences

The following experiences led to development of skills in this area:

Courses

MAN 4720; Strategic Management; Spring 1997
One of the requirements for this class was to do a group project and develop a Strategic Plan for a fictitious company. I was selected by my peers to be the group leader. I coordinated the efforts of four other classmates, planned weekly meetings and delegated assignments, and ensured completion of the project in a timely manner. We received an "A" on our project and the professor asked to use our report as a sample for future classes.

Jobs / Internships

Office of the Auditor General; Intern; 5/98-8/99
In my work at the Auditor General's Office, I help with the preparation of State Audit reports. My supervisors have provided me with consistent feedback about my leadership qualities, including being an active part of staff meetings and generating new ideas.

FSU Orientation Leader; 6/97-7/98
After a competitive application process, I was selected to be an orientation leader for incoming FSU students and their parents. I led campus tours, helped students get registered for classes, and served as a role model for new freshman.

Service / Volunteer Work

Genesis (Leadership Development Program); Group Facilitator; 8/99-12/99
I led a small group devoted to strengthening leadership skills. I developed discussion topics and performed role plays with the group members.

Memberships / Activities

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity; Vice-President; Spring 1998
I was elected by fraternity members to serve as Vice-President. I participated in Board Meetings and was Chair of the Service Committee. Our efforts raised $5,000 for local charities.

Interests / Life Experiences

I was elected co-Captain of the men's swimming team. I provide leadership to the team by fostering team spirit, improving morale, and being a positive role model.
