PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

 

Librarian.  The Career Center; The Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL (April 1994-Present).  Administer technical and informational services of The Career Center Library, including collection development, cataloguing resources, and database management.  Provide bibliographic instruction, computer training, and reference services for clients, staff and faculty.  Train and supervise work-study students and graduate assistants in their accomplishment of library tasks.  Coordinated database development process for new version of library’s electronic public access catalog.  Designed current layout of library based on resources and client needs.  Promoted from Instructor Librarian to Assistant University Librarian (1996), and to Associate University Librarian (2001).

 

Summer Institutes/ESOL Program Specialist.  Leon County Schools; Tallahassee, FL

(March 1991-April 1994).  Planned and implemented institutes and workshops for public school teachers and administrators through the Staff Development office.  Managed annual budget of approximately $100,000, with responsibility for all purchasing and amendment decisions.  Developed and maintained databases of Staff Development book/video collection and teachers required to complete state-mandated training sessions.

Information Specialist.  Educational Services Program, The Florida State University; Tallahassee, FL (November 1993-March 1994).  Provided reference services for the Tech Prep Clearinghouse, including ERIC and clearinghouse database searches.

 

Training Coordinator/Program Specialist.  Academy for Educational Development; Washington, DC (August 1988-September 1990).  Monitored scholarship programs of 300 foreign university students, including internship, seminar and travel logistics, academic advising and problem resolution.  Created quarterly participant newsletter, coordinated monthly information mailing, and planned annual calendar of campus visits and special events.

 

Employment Counselor/Adult Education Instructor.  Latin American Youth Center; Washington, DC (November 1986-August 1988).  Developed and taught "World of Work" curriculum, maintained participant records and planned orientations and special events.  Prepared and taught multi-level English as a Second Language classes and tutored 40 Hispanic adults per year for the GED exam in Spanish.

 

Teacher of  English as a Foreign Language.  Centro de Idiomas Langages; Barcelona, Spain

(October 1985-June 1986).  Planned and conducted seven English classes for professionals at beginning through advanced levels, developed varied teaching and testing materials.

 

High School Spanish Teacher.  Calvert Hall College; Towson, MD

(November 1982-June 1985).  Planned and taught six classes per year at freshman through senior levels.  Created learning and testing materials, managed homeroom, and chaperoned student activities.

 

Youth Advocate/Newsletter Editor.  Jones Falls Community Corporation; Baltimore, MD

(April-November 1982).  Counseled youth and facilitated small-group projects.  Designed, edited, and promoted community newsletter with 3000+ circulation.
