Dr. Jeff W. Garis has served as Director of the Florida State University Career Center since 1992 and he is a licensed Psychologist. He is also an affiliate member of the FSU Counseling Psychology and Educational Leadership programs. Prior to his career at FSU, Dr. Garis was associated with Career Development and Placement Services at Penn State University for over 20 years. He holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, a M.Ed. in Counselor Education and a B.S. in Psychology; all from Penn State. He has authored numerous publications regarding the application of computer-assisted guidance to college career counseling. He is co-author with of a Chapter addressing counseling services in Upcraft and Gardner’s book, The Freshman Year Experience published by Jossey-Bass. Dr. Garis also is the co-author of a book entitled Handbook for the College/University Career Center published by Greenwood Press in 1993. Jeff is the Senior Editor and chapter author of a book published in the fall, 2007 by Jossey Bass entitled Emerging ePortfolios: Opportunities for Student Affairs.
Dr. Garis has been active with Southern Association of Colleges and Employers (SACE) Consulting Services and Chaired or Co-Chaired SACE visitations to Clemson University, the University of Alabama, Eastern Kentucky University, University of Louisville and the University of Tampa. Jeff also served as a member of the SACE visitation team for Rollins College and Longwood College. His international consultations have included: University of the West Indies campuses in Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad; University of Costa Rica-San Jose and Turrialba campuses; and the People’s Republic of China National Ministry of Education in Beijing and Shanghai.
