Dr. Janet Lenz is the Program Director for Instruction, Research, & Evaluation
in the Florida State University Career Center, and an Assistant-In faculty
member in the Florida State University College of Education’s Department of
Educational Psychology and Learning Systems (EPLS). Dr. Lenz coordinates the
Ed.S./Master’s career counseling specialty within the EPLS Psychological Services
in Education program. She also serves as the Co-Director of FSU’s Center for
the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. She received
her BS degree in Sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond,
VA. She received her MS degree in Student Personnel Administration and her
PhD in Counseling and Human Systems, both from Florida State University. Dr.
Lenz is a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Master Career Counselor (MCC),
and a Career Development Facilitator Instructor. Dr. Lenz received the American
Counseling Association’s 2007 Professional Development Award. She is past-president
of the National Career Development Association (NCDA) and an NCDA Fellow.
Previously she served as the Program Director for Career Advising, Counseling,
& Programming in the FSU Career Center. In addition to her FSU experience,
Dr. Lenz worked at the University of Texas at Austin Career Center, and as
the Assistant Director in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro Career
Center. She has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications in the career
area including books, book chapters, monographs, articles, and technical reports.
With colleagues Sampson, Reardon, and Peterson, she co-authored the text:
Career Counseling & Services: A Cognitive Information Processing Approach,
and the text, student manual and instructor’s manual for Career Development
and Planning: A Comprehensive Approach. She is also a co-author of the Career
Thoughts Inventory and the Career Thoughts Inventory Workbook. Dr. Lenz is
also the co-author, with Bob Reardon, of The Self-Directed Search and Related
Holland Materials: A Practitioner’s Guide.
