Bob Reardon received a Bachelor of Science in
Social Studies from Texas Lutheran College in 1963, and his graduate study at
Florida State University in counseling and guidance and counselor education
earned him M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 1965 and 1968, respectively. Reardon has held full-time counseling and teaching positions at FSU since 1966,
when he was first employed as a counselor in the Counseling Center. As a faculty member in the Division of
Student Affairs, his current position is Director of Instruction, Research, and
Evaluation in the Career Center; Professor in the Department of Educational
Psychology and Learning Systems; and Co-Director (with James Sampson, Jr.) of
the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development. He is also the Coordinator of the Career
Specialization (http://www.epls.fsu.edu/psych_services/index.htm)
in the Psychological Studies in Education Program in the College of Education.
He has co-authored several books, including Career Counseling and Services: A Cognitive
Information Processing Approach (2004, with Sampson, Peterson, and Lenz); Career
Development and Planning: A Comprehensive Approach (2000, with Lenz,
Sampson, and Peterson); The Self Directed Search and Related Holland Career
Materials: A Practitioner’s Guide (1998, with Lenz); Career Development
and Services: A Cognitive Approach
(1991, with Peterson and Sampson); Career Development Interventions
(1984, with Burck and others); Facilitating Career Development (1975,
with Burck and others); and Counseling and Accountability (1973, with
Burck and Cottingham). He is a
co-author of the Career Thoughts Inventory (1996), and the author of the
computer-and Internet-based Interpretive and Professional Reports for the
Self-Directed Search interest inventory (1985, 1994, 1999; www.self-directed-search.com).
Reardon has published more than 75 articles in
professional journals, focusing on the research and development of innovative
career interventions for college students and adults, and featuring the use of
educational and occupational information.
The CCIS program he developed at FSU in 1972 (now directed by Janet
Lenz) logs 8,500 career services contacts annually, has been reported in more
than 60 articles, and has served as a field training site for over 350 graduate
students.
He received the Eminent Career Award from the National
Career Development Association in 2003, the Merit Award from the National
Vocational Guidance Association in 1983, and was co-recipient with Dr. Jim
Sampson of the Ralph Berdie Memorial Research Award and the Extended Research
Award from the American Counseling Association in 1996 and 1999, respectively.
Reardon’s professional memberships include American
Counseling Association, National Career Development Association, American
Psychological Association (Division 17), National Association of Colleges and
Employers, Florida Counseling Association, and Florida Career Development
Association. He is an NCDA Fellow,
National Certified Counselor, and a National Certified Career Counselor.

and Evaluation, and MHS 6300 Theories of Vocational Behavior.
