New Web Site!

The Career Center is proud to announce the launch of its new website at www.career.fsu.edu. This new version builds on the strengths of the previous Career Center website, which was developed five years ago. While continuing to focus on the career development needs of many audiences served by the Career Center, the new website is designed to provide quicker access to on-line services and information. A Career Center committee worked for over one year with students and employers to get the usability, visual design, and organization of the new website "right". Also emphasized was increased accessibility of the website for people with visual and motor disabilities. As always, the Career Center welcomes feedback on the new website and all of its services and information resources.

A Focus on Service

Developing quality relationships with students is an important value for Career Center staff. For example, Sean Collins, our Credentials Coordinator, was recently honored as a nominated for the university-wide max Carraway Award. Formerly the employee of the Year Award, nominees for this award should exemplify the spirit of service to students demonstrated by FSU Registrar Emeritus Max Carraway. Sean was nominated by the people who know him best, his fellow staff members who work in the placement office, to create connections between students and employees. "I feel great to be recognized by my peers," Sean said. "As a student myself, it's nice to have someone treat you with respect and go out of their way a little bit to help out. I treat everybody like t hey were a close friend." Students will find Sean's outlook on his work is no exception among Career Center staff.

The Career Edge

According to the 2007 Graduating Student Survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), services like those available at the Career Center can give students an advantage in securing a full-time job after graduation. The survey showed that 52 percent of students who secured full-time employment used their career center's job expos and 41 percent used their career center's online services. "Our study shows that students who actually got full-time jobs tended to use their college career center and its resources more heavily than those who skipped over the career center and went directly to the employer," explains NACE Executive Director Marilyn Mackes.

Fortunately, the FSU Career Center is ready to help Seminoles connect with employers before and after graduation. The Career Center offers current and recently graduated students the opportunity to create a job search strategy with a career advisor, attend career expos with hundreds of recruiters, participate in on-campus interviews with nationally known employers, receive resume critiques, and practice with mock interview mentors. Alumni are also welcome to continue their relationship with the Career Center. These and many other services at the FSU Career Center can give FSU students and alumni the edge in the employment marketplace after graduation!
