The following are activities you can do to help you learn how specific job titles relate to college majors or fields of study:

Review Module V, "Matching Majors and Jobs."

Review printed materials in the Module V "Matching Majors and Careers" folders in the Mobile File (file #1) in The Career Center, specifically the "Match-Major" sheets.

Read sections in these books or others found in Area IIC of The Career Center library (also may be located at your local library or bookstores).

Perform a search on Career Key under the topic Occupation by Major to get a list of relevant Career Center Library resources. Ask a Career Advisor for assistance.

Use the College Majors Card Sort to find majors and occupational opportunities.

Review employment information in the Undergraduate Academic Program Guide for FSU majors (kept on the Career Library Reference Desk).

Use the Dictionary of Holland Occupational Codes, Part 3, that links Instructional Program Titles to Holland codes to see the connection between personal characteristics and fields of study.

Use the Search by Major feature in SIGI3 *(password protected - see below).

Review selected Employer Directories that list organizations by major, career, or geographical areas located in section VI of The Career Center library (or in your local college or public library).

Consult with Career Center staff members in Career Placement Services (CPS) and Career Experience Opportunities (CEO).

Review "Human Resource" contacts from Career Key print-outs; with the assistance of a Career Advisor, use the Explore database to see what types of positions individuals have entered with their majors.

Review job notice files in The Career Center, organized by career areas, government agencies, overseas employment, and educational settings, or on the Internet, to see the types of majors required by employers for specific positions.
