Viewing The Career Center Website on a Macintosh
We are currently re-coding our website to work on most of the popular browsers on the market today. If you experience difficulty reading the pages in your Mac browsers, try to use the Netscape browser for better results. Microsoft has ceased to support Internet Explorer for macs.
Requirements for viewing a Mediasite presentation on the Mac
What is required in order to view a Mediasite presentation on the Mac?
First Solution: You probably only need to install the Flash Plugin.
If you still run into problems, here are some alternative solution(s):
Mac OS X
- Safari, or Firefox 1.0 or later
- Windows Media Player for Mac
Note: Windows Media Player 9 for Mac is not a Universal application and must be run under Rosetta emulation on an Intel-based Mac. As such, the browser must also be forced to run under Rosetta as well. This is a temporary workaround until a practical solution is available.
Steps for configuring the browser to run under Rosetta emulation:
- Go to the Applications folder.
- Ctrl click the browser icon (e.g. Safari, Firefox) and click "Get info".
- Check the box labeled "Open using Rosetta".
The next time the web browser is launched it will run under Rosetta emulation.
Additional Comments:
- The Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codec is not supported in the Flip4Mac plug-in, and the ACELP.net codec is not available for the Mac. Presentations that will be viewed from a Mac should use the standard Windows Media Audio 9 codec.
- The Flip4Mac plug-in causes problems when viewing Mediasite presentations and should be disabled.
Flip4Mac plug-in for QuickTime causes Mediasite presentations not to work
Installing the Flip4Mac Windows Media component for QuickTime on the Mac OS causes Mediasite presentations not to work in the Firefox, Netscape and Safari browsers.
Solution(s):
- When installing the Flip4Mac software, select the "do not install the plug-in" option. If the plug-in is already installed, it can be disabled by doing the following:
- Go to the Mac OS X System Preferences.
- Click on "Flip4Mac WMV" under Other.
- Clear the "Use Flip4Mac WMV Internet Plug-in" checkbox on the Plug In tab.
- Note: The Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codec is not supported in the Flip4Mac plug-in, and the ACELP.net codec is not available for the Mac. Presentations that will be viewed from a Mac should use the standard Windows Media Audio 9 codec.
We are presently upgrading the procedure for converting Mediasite presentations into FLASH but that capability is not available just yet.
