Anxiety and/or depression may be symptoms present when children experience school phobia
Family or peer conflict is a major stressor for school phobia
Academic difficulties are another stressor that affects school phobia
Current or past bullying or teasing is important to look for because it can decrease one’s motivation for going to school

UNDERSTAND what causes school phobia:

There is no one cause of school phobia, rather a variety of factors can contribute to children and adolescents not going to school. The following factors can influence whether or not a child develops school phobia:

bullying
teasing
anxiety
depression
genetic factors
environmental factors
family or peer conflicts
a recent change such as a divorce or a move to a new home or school
