Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship.

I was approached by my supervisor prior to Fall 2017 with the opportunity to apply for the position of Graphic Designer at the Florida State University Center for Global Engagement (CGE). From there, I returned to Tallahassee to interview and, shortly after, I was accepted and I began my new role!

If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your internship/research opportunity/fellowship, what were they? How did they support your application process?

During the Spring 2018 semester, this position was transitioned into a part of the InternFSU program, which created a more structured component to encourage personal and professional development.

Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.

My role as graphic designer consists of assisting Communications Coordinator, Rebecca Sage, in designing publications and collateral materials for the CGE's events and programs. I am also responsible for managing the Publications Request List and receiving and implementing any edits or revisions necessary to finalize graphics.

What was a typical day like "on the job?"

Typically, I keep in contact with my supervisor along with others who request graphics in fulfilling their requests and facilitating the feedback process.

What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?

I've learned that communication is essential in any environment, whether personal or professional. Also, with my position at the Center for Global Engagement, I have had the opportunity to play a role in the entire creative process.

Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?

As I began this experience, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do, in terms of working in the advertising industry as a creative. However, this experience has solidified my passion for design and equipped me with the skills to begin my career confidently.
