Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship.

I completed the application process on Florida Sunshine Legislative website. After evaluating my application, I did an in-person interview.

How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?

I prepared about a month before applying for the experiential learning opportunity. After applying, I started the internship at the beginning of Session.

Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.

I am responsible for tracking the Senator's proposed legislative bills, preparing the Senator for the legislative process by compiling information for committee meetings and Session dates, and being the first line of communication between the public and the Senator.

What was a typical day like "on the job?"

A typical day in the Florida Senate begins at 8am, it is filled with meeting the deadlines for amendments and proposals, committee meetings and Session, and meetings with individuals regarding legislative priorities in the district and committees.

What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?

A major takeaway from my experience in the Florida Senate is that a positive relationship with every individual you meet is a necessity. The network of individuals in the professional world is very interconnected. After graduation I will take this knowledge of professionalism and respect into graduate school.
