Describe the steps you took to obtain your internship.

The steps I took to obtain this internship was preparing for the actuary job fair. I made sure that I had my resume up to date with my latest information and had practiced my elevator speech so that I can give a brief introduction about myself to the companies. I then made sure to sharpen my interviewing skills so that I can present myself to potential companies in my best light.

How far in advance did you prepare and begin applying for your experiential learning opportunity?

I started preparing for the job fair and interviews about a month beforehand so that my ideas are fresh in my head, but I still had a good amount of time to prepare my ideas so that I could get hired.

If you used any Career Center services, resources, or events to obtain your internship, what were they? How did they support your application process?

Career Center would come to our Future Seminole Actuaries club meetings before the job fair to give tips on interviewing and resume building. This was pretty helpful in making sure that my resume was good for the job fair and that my interviewing skills were sharp.

Describe some of your responsibilities or duties during your experiential learning opportunity.

Most of my responsibilities involve editing and automating processes on Excel spreadsheets with the use of visual basic coding. I also would communicate with my project managers and mentor about things I should be working on and making sure that I was in contact with them.

What was a typical day like "on the job?"

A typical day on the job would start with reading and answering emails and teams messages to make sure I'm up to date on my current projects. Then I spend the rest of the day working in excel or visual basics to complete tasks for my projects.

What are some major takeaways from your experience? How will these help prepare you for the next step after graduation?

Some major takeaways are that you need to be good at communicating with a lot of different people so that you can stay on the same page and get projects completed in the way they are needed to be and on time. This will help me with any other team I work on because communication is so important.

Did this experience help clarify your career path? If yes, how so?

Yes it definitely helped me see that being an actuary is a job I would actually like because I was able to get real hands-on work in the field.
